1. Hifdhul-Qur’an
The Memorisation of the Qur’an al-Kareem
Our Hifdh program equips students with the skills and dedication to memorise the Qur’an in its entirety. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, students focus on precise tajweed, disciplined learning techniques, and developing a deep spiritual bond with the words of Allah.
2. Aalimiyyah
Study of Islamic Jurisprudence and Sciences
The Aalimiyyah program is a comprehensive study of the sacred sciences, including Fiqh, Hadith, Tafsir, and Aqeedah. This rigorous curriculum prepares students to become scholars who preserve, teach, and apply Islamic knowledge with integrity and wisdom.
3. Tajweed and Qira’aat
Science of Qur’anic Phonetics and Renditions (Sabah and Asharah)
This course focuses on the intricate art of Qur’anic recitation, teaching the correct pronunciation (tajweed) and exploring the rich diversity of Qur’anic renditions (qira’aat). Students gain mastery in both theory and practice, ensuring precision in their recitation of the Qur’an.
4. Ifta Course
Specialisation in the Science of Islamic Jurisprudence and Research
The Ifta program trains advanced students in the methodology of issuing Islamic legal rulings (fatwas) and conducting in-depth research on complex jurisprudential issues. Graduates are prepared to serve as reliable sources of Islamic legal guidance in their communities.
5. Arabic Adab
Specialisation in Arabic Literature
This course delves into the richness of Arabic language and literature, covering classical texts, poetry, and prose. Students develop a profound appreciation of Arabic eloquence and its pivotal role in understanding the Qur’an and Islamic scholarship.

A Legacy of Islamic Education, Guidance, and Service
Established in 1983 as a Religious and Charitable Trust, Darul Uloom Zakariyya (formerly known as Madrasah Zakariyya) stands as a cornerstone of higher Islamic education and community service for the Muslim Ummah. Guided by the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah, the institution is dedicated to nurturing the spiritual, educational, and social well-being of Muslims, fostering a deep connection to Islamic tradition while addressing the challenges of the modern world.
Located on the outskirts of Lenasia, approximately 20km south of Johannesburg, near the suburb of Zakariyya Park, the Darul Uloom serves as both a center of excellence and a haven for Islamic learning. Registered as a Non-Profit Organisation and recognised as a Public Benefit Organisation by the South African Revenue Service, Darul Uloom Zakariyya operates with the singular aim of serving Allah through the dissemination of authentic Islamic knowledge and service to humanity.

Our Aims and Objectives
At the heart of Darul Uloom Zakariyya lies a commitment to the preservation and dissemination of Islamic teachings, rooted in the following principles:
- Teaching and Memorisation of the Qur’an al-Kareem: Providing resources and facilities for students to commit the Qur’an to memory and learn its teachings.
- Preservation of the Sunnah: Upholding and spreading the practices of Nabi Muhammad (Sallallahu’alaihi Wasallam) and his Noble Companions.
- Promoting Islamic Jurisprudence: Advocating the application of the Shariah (Islamic Legal Code) through the framework of the four schools of jurisprudence.
- Protecting Islamic Doctrine: Safeguarding the beliefs and principles of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama’ah while countering innovations and deviations.
- Encouraging Self-Reformation and Dawah: Facilitating inner spiritual growth (Tazkiya) and the dissemination of faith (Dawah and Tabligh).
- Publishing Islamic Literature: Producing authentic Islamic works for global benefit.
- Serving the Community: Supporting the religious, spiritual, and educational growth of the Muslim community while extending aid to those in need.
- Building and Sustaining Institutions: Constructing and maintaining Masaajid, Madaaris, and similar institutions to benefit the community.
